Since I mentioned talking about tools in this discussion forum...

Here is an image of the RJ-45 Network Tester I used for testing each node/trunk... plus test the patch cables used to connect up the new router and patch panel.

It is the DataShark #70025 from Paladin Tools. The kit is supplied with the tester/signal generator, two 6" inch patch cables, and the remote signal test receiver/display.

The kit also includes a black pouch/carrying case and retails for around $25.00 (US).

Of all the testors I looked at... this one was priced within my reach and worked very well. A true time saver.

beware using Ethernet LAN tools for other RJ-45 application!

electric power counters may have RJ-45 outlets for RS-485, and their wiring differs from Ethernet LAN, some of them have looping, on other side such device like MOXA NPort also may have RJ-45 to connect RS-485 and have own pinout... once some guys been helping me assembling net of these counters in one building, and start from testing my work with such cool tools. obviously, they got result that all wirings are absolutely broken then i proove them it is fully correct with mine "beeping" tool
