Learn Russian

I would like to learn to speak and write Russian.
I like learning new languages.

Is this just for Russian speaking programmers?

I have 3 years learn russian @ scool , and if not easy
Now it's 20 years ago, I can speak a little but it does cannot write more:lol:

intentionally, this subforum was made as a place for expression in russian to those, who had troubles with english, separated to not puzzle other forum members who do not understand russian.

of course, you may post here topics, where discuss learning russian or whatever other related, the only request: while topic naming add "ru:" at the begin so other will see it in last post and may know it is in russian

what about learning - there are many free inet resources to learn russian, of course, you may consult here in any question with native russian-speaking members (as me )

Yes, the first things when learning russian are alphabet and sound representation. Although russian word may be pronounced differently then written, the difference is quiet small comparing to english or french. Even if you will pronounce all letters exactly as written it may sound sometimes strange, but still be correct and undestandable. There are few common cases where sounds are different and few exclusions:

что (what) - exactly "chto", usually "shto"

and it is a kind of art to represent russian word with latin letters keeping english grammar rules and reproduce original pronouncation

Dos Vee Daan-Yah - sound equivalent
Do svidani(j)a - transliteration equivalent
До свидания! - original
Good bye! - meaming translation
Hasta la vista! - exact translation to spanish.
